Network and Infrastructure: common questions

How much does it cost to set up a network for a new office or second location?

Network projects start at $2,500. That covers a site survey, hardware recommendations, installation and configuration, and ongoing network monitoring is available after the install.

What Wi-Fi equipment do you install?

We deploy Ubiquiti and Meraki Wi-Fi for full coverage. We also set up and manage firewalls and do structured cabling and rack setup, kept clean and organized so it scales with the office.

Can my crew open office files from a job site?

Yes. We set up VPN and remote access so authorized people reach office files from site without the server being exposed to the public internet. For Able Electrical LTD in Surrey, we used Tailscale so field staff connect from job sites across the Lower Mainland on iOS and Android.

Do you set up servers and shared drives for the office?

Yes, on-premise and hybrid. For Able Electrical LTD we built a 1U rack server running TrueNAS with three 6TB drives in RAIDZ1. Their business data is centralized and backed up. They own the hardware and pay no monthly cloud storage fees.

Is network support covered by the monthly plan?

On Professional and Premium, yes, so a network problem does not turn into an hourly bill. Break/fix IT support in Canada runs about $125 to $175 per hour. Major infrastructure projects, like a new office network, are quoted separately.
